This ornament commemorates Angelo State University, located in San Angelo, TX. Home to approximately 6300 students, ASU is a regional comprehensive coeducational institution of higher learning offering programs in the liberal and fine arts, sciences, education for the health professions, teacher education, and business administration. This ornament features two of the prominent buildings on the ASU campus. In the foreground is the new Junell Center/Stephens Arena, the state-of-the art facility built to accommodate the athletic needs of ASU, while also providing a setting for educational, cultural, and social events for the community of San Angelo. The Stephens Arena can seat up to 6500 people. In the background of the ornament is one of the two Hi-Rise Dorms on the ASU campus, visible from miles outside of San Angelo. Though a number of dorms are located on campus, the Hi-Rise dorms serve as an easily-recognizable landmark for ASU.
